5 reasons why not to miss Deafheaven on Monday

On Monday May 1st, one of the most bold names of the current (post) black metal scene returns to Prague. We’ve got 5 reasons why you can not miss this show.

1. The only black metal wearing the pink t-shirt
No nihilism, nor crystalline shoegaze of neo-romanticism. The philosophical, melancholy darkness that wears the shirt collar on the last button and is not afraid to wear a pink shirt. Deafheaven defies the orthodox perception of the genre with its natural spontaneity.

2. You will not get more love anywhere else on the first May
Better than a fleeting embrace on Petrin hill is the oppression in Lucerna Music Bar. Deafheaven swirls and awakens emotions both readable and sensible. With the sore authenticity of the renowned contemporaries Celeste, Downfall of Gaia or Oathbreaker.

3. They released one of the most controversial metal records of the decade
Second album Sunbather is controversial even 4 years after its release. The legendary artwork, which was freely inspired by the cover of the We Love Life album by Pulp, and the original font that the band later auctioned. Exciting reviews (Metacritic awarded 92/100) as well as complete misunderstanding and ironic notes about hipster black metal. Despite all this, non-responsive music does not live.

4. Charismatic frontman George Clarke
Metal and hardcore alternative scene has several prominent frontmen. Among others, Jacob Bannon (Converge) or Greg Puciato (The Dillinger Escape Plan). Unlike both, George Clarke has Deafheaven as his priority and resists side projects, and features exceptionally in other projects. For example recently, in the remix of the Youth Code from Chelsea Wolfe.

5. Youth Code as another face of musical darkness
Postpunk 80s fluid, raw old school EBM, references to pioneers like Skinny Puppy or Front Line Assembly. Youth Code released their second album Commitment to Complication last year.
