US soulful house trio Tortured Soul are proof that modern soulful house music can be freed from the DJ booth. Not only are the fans talking about them in superlatives, also other great musicians. Lenny Kravitz says about their music: “The music of Tortured Soul is the music, which you want to hear on a Saturday morning, when the sun shines through your window.” Tastemaker Gilles Peterson has dubbed them “the future of house music”. Their last studio album Hot For Your Love Tonight was released last year in May. The third cool, groove-centred album is dedicated to the memory of keyboard player and founding member Ethan White, who passed away suddenly in March at the age of 39.
