The members of Algiers that come from London, Atlanta and New York don’t want to be just standing by anymore. Their second album called The Underside Of Power is an album of resistance and they intend to conquer the world with it. Last year Algiers played in 007 club in Strahov and their sold out show resembled a Molotov cocktail. This time they are bringing their show to the circle stage of Lucerna Music Bar.

Algiers quartet have been influenced by a number of artists including Big Black, Wendy Carlos, John Carpenter, Cybotron, The Four Tops, Portishead, Public Image Limited, Steve Reich and Nina Simone. Their music resonates with Southern rap, Northern soul, gospel, IDM, industrial, grime and Italo.

The album was recorded mostly in Bristol and the spiritual counsellor was Adrian Utley of Portishead who lent them several of his synthesisers. Other technical colleagues were Ben Greenberg (Uniform, The Men) and Randall Dunn. The title song sounds like a combination of Suicide and The Temptations, it’s a catchy anger explosion reaching back to the 70’s.

Tickets are for sale from 21st September 10am.
