Balthazar from Belgium have announced their return with a new album called Fever that is being released on 25th January 2019 on PIAS label. The single of the same name has already been released on YouTube and Spotify. Balthazar will perform the entire album on 28th February in Lucerna Music Bar. The support act will be Faces On TV, also from Belgium.
It becomes clear straight after the first few notes of the new album that this quintet has gone through some changes. The band members have had been busy with solo projects but on this fourth album they found new territories. It is playful, frank and enriched by both authors’ experience.
During their pause the frontmen and band’s writers Jinte Deprez and Maarten Devoldere went solo which was interesting and inspiring for both of them. Devoldere released two colourful and moody art-jazz albums and Warhaus relocated to Kyrgyzstan. Deprez, his best friend all the way from kindergarten, stayed home in Ghent and made an old-school RnB album under name J. Bernardt. This creative freedom and a chance to broaden their horizons has brought these guys together again.
Both of the main composers have agreed on a less serious form of the album with an easier and fresh sound. Devoldere explains: ““Some songs felt like classic Balthazar pop songs, others a little chipper, but it wasn’t until we had Fever that we had the foundation for the rest of the album.”
