THUNDERCAT is the alter ego of virtuosic bassist / singer Stephen Bruner. He joined thrash legends Suicidal Tendencies as a teenager, and spent road and studio time with everyone from Stanley Clarke to Snoop Dogg to Erykah Badu. 2015 also saw Thundercat make outstanding contributions to landmark albums by Kamasi Washington (The Epic) and Kendrick Lamar (To Pimp A Butterfly). His work on Lamar’s recently netted him his first Grammy.

After meeting and touring with Flying Lotus, the two artists collaborated on Lotus’ 2010 LP Cosmogramma on the track “MmmHmm.” Their kindred sense of musicality led to Thundercat’s 2011 solo debut The Golden Age of Apocalypse, co-produced by Flying Lotus and released on his label Brainfeeder , followed by Apocalypse (2013) and The Beyond / Where the Giants Roam (2015). The last studio work of the two is the single “In These Streets”, which was released this year in September. It is collaboration of Thundercat (vocals, bass), Flying Lotus (programming, editing) and Louis Cole (keyboards, drums, programming).

Thundercat has music deeply rooted within. His father, Ronald Bruner, Sr., is an internationally renowned jazz drummer who played with the Temptations, Diana Ross, Gary Bartz and Gladys Knight. His brother Ronald Bruner, Jr., a Grammy-winning drummer, has played with the likes of Roy Hargrove, Stanley Clarke, and Wayne Shorter. Stephen joined his brother as a member of West Coast punk vets Suicidal Tendencies, playing bass on their worldwide tours while still in high school. He also toured through Japan with Stanley Clarke at the age of 16.

Thundercat – long-standing member of Flying Lotu’s  Brainfeeder family – will embark on an extensive live tour through the US and Europe in February, March and April of 2017, joined by his friends Dennis Hamm (keys) and Justin Brown (drums).
